Day 2...
Waiting... I think that's been the primary feature of the last 36 hours. Several hours in the desolation of Terminal 5 in Heathrow, some broken sleep on the flight to Madrid and finally to the long-awaited flight to Caracas... Delayed on the tarmac by one hour, no biggie...
I expected to catch up all that lost sleep on Madrid-Caracas. Alas, it was not to be so. I don't care how comfortable airline seats are suppose to be; sitting upright is not the natural position for sleep for ...
Adios Caracas
Today I spent most of the day in a car driving around Caracas. It's a large sprawling city with favelas precariously stacked at the extreme western and eastern ends of the city. During the rainy season the favelas do not fare well and there is plenty of evidence of landslides and collapsed houses. It seems as if much of the city has been constructed in a 20 year concrete fest between 1950 and 1970 but I could be completely wrong. There's a huge spaghetti maze of ...
Food tour of the city of green and light
... me, I agreed , trees line the large wide boulevard avenues around the nice parts of the city. People are sitting and talking in large plazas that are common in the city landscapre, I also saw people working out in the evening when dark in the outdoor gyms. I really noticed how green it was when I got a bit of the sniffles, must be the higer pollen level I'm not used to. I also saw a few plazas lit up at night with water features and music. I had ...

The next morning we bit the bullet and decided to splurge on a private taxi. There was no way we could afford to take chances missing our flight back to Miami and we had airport security to go through. We expected to have our bags thoroughly checked, much like the road block inspections we had faced throughout ...
In and out of Caracas
... kilos, including both bags, so we had made sure we met the criteria before heading to the airport. The people in front of us, however, had tried to pull a fast one by putting all their heavy stuff in their carry-on. You should have seen their faces when the agent told them the weight limit included their hand bags. They had to shell out more money - we were grateful we had bothered to read the fine print! As we waited for our flight to Los Roques, we looked out the window ...
