    ... outside of Rio Verde where we were camping. The campground had a stove, kitchen, and sitting area so it was a great setup for us to cook our meals. We got everything arranged, just before another over landing group arrived. The owner of the campground did a briefing for us about the area, activities to do and how to get to and from Banos.     ... a success so far. On April 7, I left Boston to Panama City, where I spent one night. My time there was sweet and short. I chose to use Couchsurfing to lodging in Panama City, as my journey will be a most economic one! What Couchsurfing is is essentially a social network for a places to stay all around the world. It is also a great tool for social interaction. Juan can attest to this as he wrote his thesis about it.

    ... out and, as we walked to our common meeting area, the rain started again. We barely made it to cover when the skies again opened up. We made the most of it and enjoyed some more coffee, but I was surprised to see that the porters were still collecting our bags and sending things down toward the dock as if nothing was happening. At about 8:15 am, Pato circled us up and told us to walk down to the docks and get our life jackets on. The rain had not let up at all. ...

    ... volcano Tungurahua at a height of 5,023m. It was active as recently as 2006, and the people in Banos had to be evacuated, some for 6 months, others stayed away for over a year! (Some of the residents fought their way back into the town using stones and shovels against the army as they found out the army was looting their homes!!) There were three hamlets that were wiped out on the western slope, seven people were killed and the ash cloud ...
