Whatever interesting roads we left on the table yesterday we made up for today. 343 miles, 300 of which were on sweepers and twisties. Much of the remaining straight stretches were so remote they lent themselves to another form of exhilarating riding. (The max speed shown on my route link is somehow inaccurate.)

Driving out of Salt Lake, we were also struck by some pretty extreme evidence of homelessness and poverty, especially around the train station. Now, you can say that about any big city, especially if it has a temperate climate. And I know that the Mormons do much good and charitable work. But the juxtaposition of so much abject poverty and suffering, just minutes away from such carefully manicured ...
... he was 94. And he didn’t slow down, much. He did give up skiing at 89, but it’s told he ran 150 yards down a muddy slope on a duck-hunting trip at 91, and bought his first Wave Runner at 94. He drove his own car, answered his own phone, and flew coach. His favorite restaurant was McDonalds, where, I’m guessing, he always ordered “fries with that.”
