Crisis averted - Kenny saves the day

... close to the city centre (almost next to the Tivoli Amusement Park) and then hit the cobble stone streets. A really lovely city for a walk around. It had the usual mix of canals and interesting architecture with a heavy tourist load. The central plaza street reminds me a lot of Nurnberg's kilometres of plazas and it makes for easy strolling, window shopping and people watching. There were a couple of antique markets along the way and we followed the main streeet ...

The first flight

Stayed in Aarhus as our sleep over stop, mainly becasue Billund has no hostels! Didn't do anything on our night there, as it had taken us about 8 hours to make it there from Berlin, many change overs on trains!

Went to Legoland on the second day. It was ace! Though many children running around, & they seem to think that Criel as an amazing city in Scotland. We eventually got water rides, something whcih we have been looking for since we started!

Flatlanders Once Again

... to go to Silkeborg, since it had the highest point in Denmark,(not very high) also Annalisa wanted to go there to see the bog people. Denmark is very flat to the point of we have to find out if the Netherlands or Denmark is flatter.

Well, we got to Silkeborg and figured the front desk manager was just tired of the wind and sea, because this was about as inland as you can get in Denmark ...

Being a Kid Again at Legoland!

... The lines were also inventive since they had lego building stations that the children could play in while their parents went through the lines.

The parks was also dog friendly and we saw so many cute dogs walking around!!  There were even drinking stations set up by dogs made of legos.

Fun fact: Cotton candy in Denmark is called "Candy Floss."

We ate at a traditional Danish buffet for dinner that ...

Observing Culture at LEGOLAND

... World the ride operators would tell you exactly which cart to be in and where to stand; after maneuvering through the lines at Legoland you got to pick where you wanted to be stationed for a ride. Being an American in this environment initially caused a little anxiety because I was used to being told where to wait, where to stand, and when to get on. At one point in the day we were in the front of the line and hesitated before strolling over ...

Arrival in Denmark - picking up a new country!

Finally a new country to add to the list. It has been a while since I went somewhere new. Of course, I don't have time to spend extra days here on this short trip between London trips. And work is going to keep me busy. Hopefully I will be able to do a little sightseeing in the evenings. Stay tuned.

Esbjerg

The Danish police don't take too lightly to 'free camping'...they give out on the spot fines so we decided not to temp fate and spent some time in camping grounds! A little more costly but it was so nice to have a hot shower every morning!!! After a long drive through the road works of Germany our first night was in a little coastal town called Esbjerg. We must have spent at least half an hour in the shower each... it was heaven! And an ...

A hitch-hiking challenge starts... to Denmark

... car who was on the highway who saw us and stopped at the end of the on ramp where we ran and got a ride with a nice dutch all the way till after Bremen. It was cool, nice talk and airco! Once at the german highway station between Bremen and Hamburg it was about after midday but the temperature was hugely hot, we reached 37 degree. Relax in the shadow for a while, having lunch and discussing with an old dutch couple on vacation going north with their caravan but ...

Day 7 - leaving Esbjerg

... for cyclists (there are cycle paths everywhere) and with lots of interesting things to see and do. Most of the people I met and saw seemed very pleasant and happy. The price of things is very similar to in the UK, in my experience of shops and dining out. I would definitely like to go back for another visit, and perhaps see other areas of Denmark. My next step is to learn a bit of Danish so I can talk to people when I'm there again!

Day 3 - Deer park and town museum

... town centre where I was to go to the museum as entrance is free on Wednesdays. There are many interesting exhibitions in the museum showing what life in Esbjerg was like in the past, including reconstructions of streets and homes, and there is a reconstructed viking house and displays of ancient tools and amber. Also, when I was there, they were showing an exhibition about a Danish children's book, with mocked up rooms and scenes that had been featured in the books.
