So we departed Rome as early as possible (9:00 am), and headed north to Venice. As beautiful as the Tuscan countryside is, the drive northeast of Rome was just as scenic. We enjoyed our cruise, especially as it gave us the opportunity to visit Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro, which were so amazing and interesting. The Nieuw Amsterdam is a largish ship, with 2100 passengers. On this trip there were over 700 Australians, with the rest being mostly American and Canadian, nearly all retirees. We didn't socialise much, keeping to ourselves. We had a lovely cabin with a big deck which we used a lot.
