    ... I kept looking for something that would tell me I was in China, but all I saw everywhere I looked was America. Chinese Americans, but basically nothing that reminded me of the China I had learned about in school or had seen in the movies. These people were dressed in Western clothes walking to jobs, waiting for busses or shopping just like people in any other city would be doing. Even the street signs in Shanghai are in English as well as Chinese.

    ... flow where sometimes you push ahead and sometimes you wait in line. --Conclusions-- I'm not sure I can draw any conclusions. There's sort of the trite 'land of contradictions' line. I guess there's a weirdness in how China became 'modern', and how things are not run democratically. I did have a tonne of fun. It's so big and old and crowded and similar and different.
