When we get to the cashier she informs us that some of the surrounding buildings will switch off their lights in 10 minutes time (it's now 21.50pm), that's a pity! Another canal village on the outskirts of Shanghai and a short trip from Suzhou. This one dates back to the 9th Century. Less touristy than Zhujiajio though it is really much of a muchness when it comes down to it. Tongli does have the additional draw of being a bit of a centre of political change
