      ... at 4 AM. After some snow issues on the way, I arrived just after 3 PM and was able to check in and talk to the welcome center receptionist about the park before she left for the day. I informed her I was a city boy and asked her what I should know about the park. (**** Change over from your Wisconsin accent and picture the next conversation in your best Minnesota accent ****)

      Me, CC, and the Polar Vortex

      ... and CC would be able to get in. The lady on the phone informed me they hadn't plowed because they didn't even get an inch of snow. I couldn't believe it. All day I had been hearing reports about how bad Northern Minnesota was from the Polar Vortex and they had only gotten a dusting at Lake Itasca.

      Anyway, I arrived at Lake Itasca and it is beautiful. My next post will be about tonight's adventures. They were a lot of fun.

      ... the $5 day pass to the park. At least it also was used for Lake Itasca park. Lake Lasalle State Recreation area campground was ok. A reclaimed forest which is trying to come back it is sleepy and also a bit depressing. On the good side it has full hookups and was quiet. After setting up camp we drive over to Lake Itasca to find the headwaters. We spent some time reading about the formation of the area, and the Mississippi ...

      ... campground and went into the town for a couple of pics before heading out on the road with Garmin guiding us to Minneapolis, the initial destination for the day.
