Quality First, Quantity Later Fall Break: Salzburg

... a romantic, picturesque city, and practically everything closes early. I swear, the place seemed to completely shut down at about 5 PM. So we called it an early night, in order to be ready for some sightseeing the next day!

The next morning, we got up for my first real breakfast and milk since we’d left Paris (I’m surprised I wasn’t suffering withdrawal symptoms or something, though I did ...

Zettner Family Vacation: In/ On/ Around the Mtns.

... by surprise.

Besides all the excursions we went on, another thing Emy and I really enjoyed was all the great food. Though we often try to save money and pick up some cheap food at grocery stores to hold us over, traveling with "Pop and Co." is a different story! We had so much great food, and got to experience lots of cool local places.

One of my favorites was the Augustinerbraeu beer hall. Instead she got to relax in the beautiful sunshine beside the glistening water of the large lake. We, on the other hand, managed to get on the funicular to the mines just in time to catch the last tour.
<br ...

I made it!

... by colorful gardens. We couldn’t tour the palace, but we weren’t disappointed, because the formal gardens were beautiful. We took a break and I tried calling about my bag, but the number they gave me didn’t seem to work, so we went to the hostel to check. Before we even had a chance to ask anyone, I saw it sitting on a bench in the restaurant. What a relief! That would never happen in the states.

We had time ...

Day 15_Salzburg to Frankfurt

This morning I went to a salt mine, one of the largest in the world. Ironically, the mine itself is located in Germany (near the border) rather than Salzburg. I think this is where the line blurred for tourism because quite a number of the day trip from Salzburg actually goes into Germany (Bavaria). With me, there was a family of 3 from California and a aged couple from Tasmania, Australia – and they own a fruit farm where many Singaporeans actually visit – apparently ...

The Hills are Alive....

... such beautiful views of the wide open counrtyside. We arrive at St. Gilgen, a small city on a wide open lake surrounded by the mountains. Apparently, these mountains were where the opening scenes from the movie (twirling and singing) were filmed. Our next stop is Mondsee, a slightly bigger city where St. Michael's church (the wedding scenes) is located. We bask in the afternoon sun in front of the church while snacking on some of the best ...

Berchtesgaden

August 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.

Salzburg

... there was no way they were going to do justice to this building. When we were finished at the Cathedral, we took a walk through the shopping district, with its narrow, winding streets. It was such a rush being here. There was so much to see and do, but there just was not enough time for everything. I guess we’ll just have to come back again and see the sights we missed this time around ...
