... with no surprises, just the comforts of the known. We will spend the next 2.5 months in Europe, hosting Nathan's family, visiting friends and hanging out. Looking forward to it, especially the upcoming European Soccer Championship. So stay tuned for new updates and photos.
Düsseldorf, Germany losbrowns... pretty tough for everyone, especially yesterday. I have said goodbye to all of my friends. Tara has left for her host family, Santiago has left to his host family, Trevor went to visit his fiance and son before flying home today. I think that Rafael from Chile might still be around but he is travelling around seeing Karneval all weekend in Düsseldorf and Köln.
I went on Thursday ...
... it really works.
I am kinda sad that there's not much time left here, but I am happy that I have fulfilled all of my cultural aims. My last one was fulfilled Monday night when I went to the Essen Philharmony. I didn't see Mozart, Bach, Beethoven or anything German but it was FANTASTIC... I saw the Chinese Orchestra. It was there to welcome the new year of the pig.
The instruments were not what u would usually find in an orchestra, but similar. They had ...
... After class we had an excursion to Oberhausen. It is a city about 30 mins away from Essen, but there really isn't anything there except for an 'Amerikanische Mall'. I didn't buy anything.. Are u proud of me? Then I went back to the hotel. Whilst there I did my washing, did some grocery shopping, worked out in the Kraftraum, practiced my singing, made dinner, prepared for my presentation Thurs and then went to bed.
So u can understand why I hadn't written earlier right?

... from Berlin via Hamburg in 2 weeks, which I may consider doing if it is not too expensive... We'll see.
So, not much has happened since my last email. I went on an excursion to the old Synagogue in Essen. I have a photo of it from my first day in Essen. I called it the Dome Kirche! Whoops. I should have called it the Dome Synagogue! Oh well.
I have bought a couple of tickets for some culture in the coming weeks. I am seeing the ...
... I bought at Mayersche (the German version of Borders) for only 50 cents and then made brunch for Trevor and myself. Eggs on toast. Because I am the only one who owns a toaster it was a luxury.
I then recruited the help of Rafael to help me work on Backbeat, he has no objections coz it helps him with his English pronunciation and he gets to hear me sing, which he thinks is 'perfekto'
After that I got ready to go out the Opera. I ...
So I believe I left u wondering what I was going to do on Saturday after my dreams of seeing a German castle had been completely blown out of the water.
The tutors decided that we would have the excursion to Düsseldorf instead, which is where I have already been twice. I wished that I had just stayed in bed I was SO tired. In the last 2 nights I had had a total of 8 hours sleep ...
... for their freedom, longing to be outside and know what was happening. The TV wasn't working, a static screen unable to abate our curiosity. One laptop managed to connect to the internet but took 15 minutes to download the German news page. "was ist passiert" ask the students. They crowd around the screen, brows furrowed as they translate the German text into their own language. 8 people have been killed in Germany during the hurricane. It has ...
Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany sarah.... sure that I go to my room and then give me a call at the hotel. I have to be there because I am not allowed to go out anywhere. Thanks so much for ur message! It makes me miss u even more!
Don"t worry about my safety. Luckily the hurricane changed direction and will hit the eastern states worse than here.
So I"ll go now. Still cooking dinner and it's 10pm. I will try and leave another blog entry tomorrow if I can to let u know what I get up to.
