"Dude, we blew it," I said to Matt. He didn't believe me.

"What??" He said back.

I showed him the map, with the Horseshoe shaped island and the big open field clearly visible. The beach was right there all along, behind the first big dune we went around instead of over. We were so close!

Disappointed in our failure but satisfied with our adventure, we turned in early in preparation for a booze cruise we had booked for the next morning.
