... rearing . The centre is also a world leader for research and conservation with the ultimate aim of releasing additional (3 released so far) pandas back into the wild.

K had done her research and we knew we had to be there early, so alarms were set for 6 am and taxi for 7. Having travelled over 6500 miles from UK to the middle of China, we were not going to drop another clanger on travel arrangements.

... much of it was very mountainous and high altitude. In this area of China there are many Tibetan villages around and they are keen to share their culture with the visiting tourists. We loved it as we had to cancel our plans to visit actual Tibet – so this was the next best thing ;-)

I joined a queue and fortunately I was stood behind a Canadian couple Charlie and Amanda, they were with a Chinese guy called Sid, who was going to help them buy tickets to Leshan. I soon got talking to them and thanks to Sid, we were soon on our way on a 2 hour bus journey south. ... Everyone was speaking in Chinese to him, ushering him in the right direction. He found her, only to see that she'd run out of cokes, but bought a sprite instead... You can imagine the confusion then when he walked back through the canteen with a bottle of Sprite... The whole place was then like COLA??? No Cola??? Si just shook his head and left it at that.

A very bizaar journey... But an enjoyable one none the less. Soon it was lights out and then climbed onto our beds and prayed for fresh air...

... opened at 7am sharp) However we soon found out that the ticket office didn't open until 8:30am. It was perishing and even the Eastern European warm-up didn't seem to work (see photo) A Chinese couple had 2 spare tickets and asked if we fancied buying them for 50 Yuan each (around a fiver) Bargain! and the deal was done. It was only till after that it emerged that the tickets needed activating meaning that we didn't get into the park till around 9ish. Still plenty of time ...
