Day 68 - the euphoria of walking

... great note on the inside. At this point it was 11am and our day took off. Debby and I set out to walk to the next venue, with David driving off with our bag. Although the car drive had been a convenience, I was once again quickly reminded that this pilgrimage was not about convenience, it was about walking and the time for reflection that offers. Within 15 minutes on an open footpath I feel the euphoria of just being here rising in my body. I couldn't stop the words ...

... walk along to Hunston, just south of the Mary line before turning on a last northward loop on footpaths up past Langham Hall. What awaited us was a true afternoon delight. Here, completely isolated from any road access and approached only through green footpaths across meadows, was St. Mary in the Field. Wroxham reminded me of Bobbin Head (on the Hawkesbury River) although Bobbin Head doesnt have a village like Hoveton on the other side of the river. Nor does it have the residential houses lining the river. Many of these houses are holiday homes with a number for rent. I'm not quite sure why one would want to rent a cottage and watch ...

... and Museum. One of Norwich's claims to fame is that it is the location for the manufacture of Colman's mustard. We then were able to catch the last 'hop on hop off' tour for the day and got to piece together the bits of Norwich we had seen from driving ourselves, wandering on foot and doing the river cruise. I wouldn't describe it as a pretty town apart from parts near the Wensum River. The Cathedral area is stiking and ...

... windmills in the fields too. Further north there were many hay bales and less animals. All very lush green and no sign of autumn foliage yet. Came back in time to visit the Norwich Cathedral in time for Evensong. It's a really beautiful cathedral with some soaring stained glass windows, some gorgeous (modern) embroidered banners and lovely cloisters. Finished up with afternoon tea at the Maids Head Hotel which is next door to the Cathedral and just up the road from where we are ...
