We’ve heard several tour guides complain about what happened to sites like this one. British and German archeologists did much of the work uncovering Greek and Roman remains, then carted off the most impressive pieces to their own countries.

... with a city wall, towers, gates, and all the cool toys medieval towns have. However, cobblestone streets were not one of the cool toys. Sidewalks, streets, everything resembling pavement was done in river rocks stood on their sides. One fall, and you were finished. I'm sure the horses before cars just loved this place. We then headed off past the Acropolis. of Lindos to the Palace of the Grand Masters which was built in the 14th Century by the Knights of St John as a fortress to defend the town. It was certainly a fortress complete with moats and a series of battlements with cannons still visible in the ramparts.

The Fortress was destroyed in 1858 ...
