... t fill out the independent travel forms since we didn’t know what our plans were.

Kobe was also a really cool little city on the water but we didn’t really do that much there. There was a little port area that was sort of like Seaport Village so we went there to eat one day, and we went out the one night we were there to a little bar that everyone went to.

Yokohama (as Fuji failed)

... route of the Funicular up a nearby mountain for views. The queues were ridiculous, the weather was hot and we didn't fancy being 'sardined' into the train for an hour, plus the queue wasn't moving quick at all. Even though queues are something us Brits do well, we gave up and decided to head for Yokohama which was our back up plan. Yokohama was about 1hr from where we were, and is Japan's second largest city just around ...

... in the cruise or not ...I didnt know)..until I was given the menu and decided on just a Heineken for 8 bucks...owch. They played really musacey music that I had to leave and go upstairs to the outside for a better experience. It was kinda rainy so the view was not great. But the smell of the ocean was definately predominante which like Vancouver ....I like. I finished the harbour tour and proceeded to Yokohama's Chinatown. Wow....quite the spot. Lots ...

A Long Day in Tokyo

... a clear picture before. The camera section was great too. They had a camera setup that did face recognition, and automatically took a photo when you smiled. We were playing around with it for ages. Next we went to Shibuya, which is like the downtown district. The amount of people there is just crazy. We crossed at the famous intersection a few times. Once the lights change, thousands of people cross from all 4 corners. It is so ...

Into a different world

... The book was a retrospective book, showcasing his works from his earliest years in the late 1960s to the present. Recent works feature photographs from the riverbank in our neighbourhood, cats, farm plots and homeless people. From that "penny's dropped" moment I saw him in a different light. He was on his bike or walking around looking for subjects to shoot. That he said "Good evening" to me ...

Tales of Two Tarts in Tokyo

... priced Chu-Hi, we wondered what was wrong. It was Friday night! We were in one of the most famous entertainment districts in the world! This is not how things had meant to be. What we needed was a Roppongi mentor. A squire if you will. Someone who was fun and could show us where all the good places were. Of the five or so people in Muse, none looked like they fit that description. And so Melinda and I downed our drinks, took off my shoes and took the advice of the ...

... jazz. When I nearly fell asleep, the monk stopped and resumed with a different rhythm. Meeting my relatives was quite fun, too. I had not most of them for over ten eyars. We could not recognise each other, but had entertaining conversations. Walking and cycling around the village, Oguni-machi, was thoroughly wonderful. Rice farmers were tending their rice paddies to plant rice. Oguni-machi is known for paper production, and has a small gallery tucked ...

Moving to Asakusa...

... of all time - well lo and behold, they have just announced a one-off gig in Tokyo at the end of March! Tickets go on sale on the 17th, and I`ll be trying my hardest to get one, even if it means altering some of my travel arrangements... Buzzing from the above news, I went to Ginza that evening which was massive, with all the buildings simply dwarfing me. There`s one crossing that is ridiculous in terms of how many people cross it at the same time ...

Japan

... but in comparison to the Japanese, we Americans are horrible hosts to our tourists. The first day we docked in Kobe and took the subway to Osaka. Then we took a cab to Osaka stadium to meet up with some other SASers to see a baseball game. We had some time to kill before the game started so we went to eat dinner. We were greeted by a host without shoes and were instructed to take off our shoes and put them in a locker. Ordering our food was difficult, so ...

Chapter One: I wouldn't have believed it either

... well I don't think I need to explain why. I should have just had it sent from the airport, but it was a bit late for that by the time I figured it out.. One time I couldn't go out an exit of a station because me and my suitcase wouldn't fit up the escalator. That's just sad. Some nice people gave me a lift in their car in the end, and when I got to the right place, it was closed and people couldn't stay there. That's right. It's about 9 O'Clock and I'm starting to topple. A ...
