... the boat which took us for a 20min ride on the lake but unfortunately the weather was so cloudy with grey skies that we could not spot Mt Fuji. However, it was one of the most scenic places I had ever visited in my life. Surrounded by mountains on 3 sides, it was picturesque.

We woke up the next morning and there it was - the magnificent Mt. Fuji - right outside our bedroom window. Cormac nearly wept with happiness, and proceeded to take approximately 96 photos of the same vista, repeatedly, lest the mountain should suddenly disappear and we'd have no evidence that it was ever there. I walked back to the train stations and popped my head in a McDonald's that I had passed - prices were not that bad. I was quickly back on the train and back at the airport. That was probably the best airport layover I could have asked for.

In the morning I did the Kyoto Station Sywalk, which gives great views of the skyline. Then it was onto four different trains for the 5 hour trip to Kawaguchiko which is a town at the base of Mt Fuji.
