... Canal City before walking back to our hotel. We were pretty exhausted after a day of walking and shopping so we relaxed for a couple of hours before heading out for dinner. We didn't want to go very far, nor have too large a meal so we found the perfect place right across the street from our hotel - a place called Sukiya where they served simple one bowl meals called gyu-don, beef or pork cooked with vegetables served on top of rice. John had a delicious curry ...

... we hopped onto a bus that took us to the starting point of our boat ride along the network of canals that flow through the city. It was a beautiful sunny day - perfect! ... the river and forest. We stayed here ages just enjoying the view. There was even some chairs and a wooden platform right by the river. Then it was back to our room for our dinner. We were served at our low table and brought course after course of the most incredible looking and tasting food. Horsemeat was on the menu (again) but they check with you first and I declined. Dave wasn't that impressed by it and said it wasn't so tasty rare so that made me happy. They ...

... thing going on which made for some free entertainment in the afternoon, wandering over the bridges and looking in rivers it appears that they are all teeming with carp of all types including the obvious Koi variety, so after finding out I couldn't go to Mount Aso as I'd planned due to an exclusion zone i had a rethink and on recommendations from other travellers decided on a trip south to Kagoshima instead to see the infamous ...
