... traffic into Tokyo. The journey which took us 2 hours out ended up taking us 5 hours back. There was a consolation though, as this meant we encountered people coming into the station from Shinjuku bars. Using information gleaned from our Japan by rail guidebook we made our way to Mishima station by bullet train in order to get as close as we could for a good view of Mount Fuji. This time we actually saw it from the train and also got a good view from the bus over to Motohakone. Getting off the bus I took a couple of great photos but then a pirate-looking ship was setting off across the lake and we jumped on that, not realising that that would be the end of our views until ...

... the room we stopped at a convenience store for a bottle of plum wine to celebrate and at another street vendor for an ice cream cone (we couldn't seem to find any birthday cake but ice cream works just as well in a pinch and the mango sauce had real chunks of mango). The remainder of the evening was spent sitting on the balcony, sipping wine and enjoying the music as it progressed from smooth jazz to a smattering of guitar hero's ...

... was following a computercourse on Windows and she had to leave as it was about to begin. At first i wanted to go back straight to the hotel but i found a nice path along the river and decided to follow it for a while. It was a narrow footpath lined with a lot of trees but it had some brilliant views of the riverside. ... mine wasn't. Thankfully i was allowed to watch the whole thing from up close and it was pretty realistic, with a mockup of the bulletrain's cockpit and 3d renderings of the environment.
