... but there are many traffic lights along the way and for some reason they all turn on RED when we approach them. No green zone here..... After a while the GPS lady tells us to turn right and leave the highway. We pass cute, small villages and of course lots of rice paddies and cherry orchards. ... People are so very considerate and respectful of others. They are very quiet, on the underground you are asked to keep your phone off. And in the Shinkansen you are asked to go to the area where you board the train in case you need to talk on the phone. Which is exactly what people do..... A true highlight of any japanese experience is Zao Onsen, a ski resort town about 45 minutes East of Yamagata.
Came here a bit by chance and was very lucky indeed. This town is so charming, lots of little lodges and restaurants, it's pretty, clean and surrounded by mountains, ski slopes and lakes.
