... decided to go for a morning jog. Running along paved paths from my hotel, I cut a winding trail through bamboo forests and cedar trees to emerge by the side of a large mountain lake, glittering in the morning sun.

Continuing on through the day, I made a tour of some of the more popular destinations nearby, including one of the largest botanical gardens in japan, a glass museum (featuring Chihuly!) and even ...

After a very traditional Japanese breakfast we drive to Gora Station and take a gondola ride across the Hakone Mountain crater to Owakudani. That's the site of the last volcanic eruption in Hakone 4,000 years ago. Off in the distance we see Mount Fuji! ... and swimmers. After a brief visit to the marine town, we therefore made our way to Kyoto slightly earlier than planned and experienced our first Shinkansen, or bullet train. They are incredibly fast, getting us to Kyoto in just over 2 hours- we definitely need these in England!! Unfortunately Kyoto greeted us with a huge thunder storm, so we spent most of the evening in another K's house hostel. We hope tomorrow can bring us some sunshine to explore all the city has to ...

... traffic into Tokyo. The journey which took us 2 hours out ended up taking us 5 hours back. There was a consolation though, as this meant we encountered people coming into the station from Shinjuku bars. If you would like to see what obnoxious drunk Japanese people look like (there are far fewer drunks than there are in England it should be noted), please direct yourself to Gabe`s facebook profile for the relevant video.
We again owe our wonderful host Coco a thank you for ...
