la casa delle tartarughe

The whirlpools of Japan and Awajishima island

So, at 6:30 a.m. we all met at the nearest train station to the bus we were taking for our day trip to Awajishima island west of Osaka. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to find the bus, but a five minute walk later and we were all sitting in the tour bus, clutching a day's itinerary in english, waiting in the back of the bus for someone else to show up. we were the first to get there! cool, right? it was Kathie, Jessica, Chris, and me. Finally, everyone showed up ...

J'ai tenté Tokushima by night. Guy, t'as pris ton billet?

... drinking fountains because everyone knows that the water is safe to drink. And then the smoothness ended. Osaka Kansai airport is on an island. Bikes aren't allowed on the road to the mainland, and it's getting late anyway. Bikes aren't allowed on the airport shuttle buses. The nice lady at information made us a hotel reservation in Wakayama, from which we'd catch the ferry to Tokushima on Shikoku island the next day, and sold us train tickets. We ...

... year. This dance is supposed to have started over 450 years ago by a drunk lord and his musicians picked up instruments. The dance was created. The dance is pretty simple and repetitive. I was having a bit of difficulty with it because I couldn't get my feet to do what I wanted to. Ashleigh seemed to pick up the woman's dancing part a lot easier. She did really well on the Dance Dance Revolution-type dance simulator ...

Kobe under water

... camera ;-) ). Kobe itself is much nicer than Osaka. They really rebuilt the city nicely after the huge earthquake that destroyed it. Definitely one of Japans nicest cities. tomorrow we will leave Osaka and head out to Kyoto. edit: In our hotel in Osaka we met another german who is travelling 7 weeks in Japan by himself without speaking Japanese. Also funny that we met a young man from New Zealand here again who we first met in the laundry in Tokyo. Japan is a village. ;-)

FINISH LINE!!

... cook of Big Brother`s, Norman, came over and introduced himself to us after we`d finished lunch (and the sandwiches were quite tasty, by the way). He`s a very affable guy and he knows EVERYBODY in Tokushima. Big Brothers is the unofficial embassy of Tokushima and after a few days we could see why, because if you needed anything Norman could tell you where to go and who to talk to (and you gutter-minds who are giggling over your keyboards right now better stop ...
