We came across a fruit and vege shop run by an elderly couple, who should honestly not be working at their age. They looked all of 90. We bought an apple each at 180 yen. Naturally I paid and received mine first. When Lynne came to buy hers, the old lady offered her the newer apples on the bottom tray.

... station in the middle of nowhere. The "town" had no shops and it only had the local outdoor vending machines as supplies. Having not eaten and knowing we had a further 2 hour train ride, we had to settle for a "calorie mate" bar which can only be described as a gone off Scottish shortbread biscuit without any sugar.
