... devastated the city and brought the end of World War II.

I heard my grandfather visited Nagasaki to help with the rebuilding as he was in the NZ navy during the war. He never really spoke much about it specifically, except to say it was flattened. We finally boarded the Shinkansen Bullet train and it is awesome! These trains are really first class. It seems like you are on an airplane inside, but it's a train. And it's such a smooth ride. Unfortunately it TIPPED it down with rain so some of our sightseeing was a bit hampered. WE DID: - walked to see Megane-bashi ('spectacles bridge' - due to its ...

WE DID: - caught the train from Fukuoka (Hakata) to Nagasaki. As it's the start of Golden Week, a national holiday in Japan the reserved seat tickets had sold out by the time we got round to buying them so we turned up at the station an hour early to queue on the platform for seats - we were first in the queue and managed to get some along with space for our bags, for the 2 hour train journey. - visited the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, Memorial Hall ...
