    ... Aside from gardening, Kane is a wood carver and an accomplished horseman. He no longer owns horses or rides but he continues to love horses. Akiko served tea and a local cake made with red bean paste. After our tour of the upstairs we went into their formal entertainment room. The table had a magnificent carving under the glass.     Early train journey with what seemed to be a horde of Japanese school kids in uniforms and some of the most amazing scenery going through the Japanese alps. i had to take one of the slowest local trains and at some point we just stopped for 15 minutes, but yet still arrived on time. So Kanazawa is famous for one of the most beautiful gardens of Japan - Kenroku-en. It's truly stunning and so serene. Had a small tea ceremony with very bittter matcha (powder green tea) ...

    ... chemist who tried so hard to translate Ibuprofen, and a lady in a jewellery store who did not speak English, but upon presentation of a Japanese phrase book, shut up shop and escorted us to the ATM's which were buried in a service corridor. Unfortunately, most Japanese ATM's don't accept foreign cards so we had to make do with the 9,600 yen we were able to get at the dock.
