... First day we headed up into the hills to do a bit of exploring. We made our way to the Shrine of the giant cedars – and they were giant for sure. We headed into the forest for a bit of a hike. It was strange to be hiking in a forest with a mix of cedar trees and huge bamboo stalks. Had a great view overlooking the town from here. Coming home was the best part – all downhill!

On our last day we made a bit of a discovery. Just around the ...

After a "tofu, fish, rice, pickles, miso soup, more fish, even more tofu" breakfast, we left the hotel and headed for a sand bath on the beach, including onsen. Kyushu is, as the rest of japan, a volcanic island and in Beppu, there is black sand. This black sand is warmed up by the steam coming form the volcano and people can be burried alive. I believe that earlier in our trip, we told you about a massage that we had in Kanazawa. The ladies there had very strong hands and were pressing our bodies so hard.... Well this chair does exactly the same. It is a ...

... Hiroshima is now a thriving city. Our hotel was in a central location and we were able to find good food. Check Linus out cooking us some Japanese BBQ! Awesome! Oh and the shopping, well, I'm just trying to keep it under control! The next day we went to Miyajima. Miyajima is an island near Hiroshima, a 10 min. ferry ride. This place is best known for a Torii shrine in the water. Maybe you've seen this before. We arrived in the morning and were able to walk and see ...

... sand for about 10-15 minutes. I loved it! Linus said it felt like he was being buried! Yikes! We will surely try another onsen while we are in Japan!!!!! One thing about our onsen is that it was in the red light district! We walked around and also discovered 'love hotels'. I'll let you google this one on your own! Hehehehehehe! We also noticed that the red light districts do not have a bad connotation. We see families, children hanging ...
