    ... bit salty – wouldn't recommend), and cook your own food using the power of the natural steam vents.


    We weren't feeling too hungry, but wanted to give it a try so we rented our steamer and bought some small pork dumplings to cook. A very helpful English-speaking lady at the tourist information centre walked us through it, and the resulting buns were delicious.

    ... seat your naked self upon and shower and thoroughly clean yourself before entering the water. Shampoo and rinse are provided. The stools are those little things with legs only about three inches high - a bit of a challenge.

    I was lucky enough to be in the Onsen with three delightful Japanese women, one who spoke a little English. We had a lovely chat and they took me to the other two pools available, one outside in the open air, and another up stairs. Just ...

    ... look like a hot tub as well, but have a bit of a hazy water that has a concoction of ingredients meant to make the skin healthy and smooth. Then you have your outdoor onsen. They look like a bathing pool made from boulders, often with some sort of waterfall or spout and are open to the air. Some bath houses have all three, some specialize in one type, others can have private onsen rooms that you rent and even stay the night in like a special resort.

    ... shinjuku again(one of the craziest places on earth) to get to the airport. It's full of pachinko slot arcade halls, anime characters, flashing lights and a whole lot of noise! It was horrifying to see the scale of industrialisation in Toyko. Didn't manage to capture it in a photo as the buildings and roads and bridges and factories go on for miles and miles.     On a lighter note, this is Hagi a town filled with pottery and orange groves. A place to sooth the soul with beauty. Bizarrely there was a gigantic modern building dedicated to ceramics in this quiet little island town. Incredible professional pottery in the museum and shops overflowing with more pots. No vanilla ice cream in this town, only orange. Made a change from seeing green tea ice ...
