    ... that is utterly pervasive. It's actually become something of a game - to try and find the one piece of garbage that someone forgot to pick up. Even out here in the countryside, groundskeepers and old ladies minding their storefronts and even off-duty tour guides - all routinely, perpetually seem to be picking up and maintaining the cleanliness of even the busiest tourist areas.

    It's amazing.

    ... each person is provided slippers that we are expected to wear while walking inside the ryokan. They say one size fits all, but Brett’s wide feet are popping out of the slippers and he has to walk like a Geisha to prevent them from sliding off. The housemaids at the ryokan just giggle as they think he’s so cute!

    ... to the town of Ito, a seaside town in the Izu peninsula. There we stayed a in beautiful 100 year old ryokan converted into a youth hostel named Ks house, and the value for money was incredible! We enjoyed a peaceful stay in another traditional Japanese room- unfortunately this time there were no Yukata robes for Gabe to enjoy. We spend Saturday wandering around Ito, which was nice enough, however we were disappointed that the beach was grey and not designed ...

    ... traffic into Tokyo. The journey which took us 2 hours out ended up taking us 5 hours back. There was a consolation though, as this meant we encountered people coming into the station from Shinjuku bars.
