We are excited to be in Kyoto now. Kyoto used to be Japan's capital ( for over a thousand years) before Tokyo became capital in 1869. So there is so much culture and history here. Kyoto was a contender for the atomic bomb drop, however the only reason it didn't get chosen was because one of the American decision makers had had his honeymoon here and said Kyoto was a rich cultural center and not to bomb it! We decided to take a Viator tour (run by Sunshine Tours, Tokyo CIty Tours, Hatobus company) to see Mount Fuji. We were supposed to visit two observation stations on the mountain, have lunch, do a lake cruise, take a cable car to get a view of the mountain and take the bullet train back to Tokyo.

In the middle of Perry Road is a small canal, there are shops and houses on both sides, blooming hydrangeas in the middle add to the beauty of this old road. We walk to the end and back, it's pretty hot by now. We buy a small bracelet for Caroline at the souvenir shop and decide to head to Izu, our next destination. We need to crossover the Izu Peninsula from the east to the west side. The scenery along the way is pretty, ...

... us to our rooms speaks quite a bit of English and kindly explains the hotel, the restaurants (there is a Japanese restaurant as well as a French one) and the onsen. Emile later enjoys the onsen which overlooks the ocean, Juliet and I explore the tropical gardens from where you have an awesome view. Much to everybody's surprise the menu at the Japanese restaurant features Shabu-shabu and that's what we order for dinner. Quite tasty and ...
