... if I sprinted all through that huge new airport with my bags—no checked luggage to wait for—I should be able to get through the baggage area and rush upstairs to get into the international terminal before the one hour limit on check-in for international flights.

And then we waited at the gate for 20 mortal minutes for the plane door to open and release us. No idea why. As they say there with a shrug, “Because—India.” ...

As mentioned in a previous blog, Kyoto streets are on a grid system and no jay walking is allowed. I suddenly became aware that when the traffic lights changed to allow pedestrians to cross, they are synchronised the whole length of the street. So all you can see when you look down the street are either all red or all green lights. It also becomes quieter as the engines of the hybrid buses and cars turn off. Really weird ...

... train back to Osaka.

We didn't actually catch the same train back together because we were both going to different stops but we organised to meet up for a beer at Osaka main train station before I catch the overnight bus to Tokyo.

When I got back to the hostel I had a quick shower and got my things ready. I really wanted to take a picture of Osaka's castle at night time because the night before I was so close. I had arranged to meet Xavier at Namba's metro platform ...

Then it was off to Nara, famous for its amazing temples and massive Great Buddha, the Daibutsu, that is beautifully cast in bronze. It's nearly 15 metres tall and is an impressive sight, but perhaps more amazing were some incredible giant statues of warriors, so meticulously crafted out of wood that from afar, they appeared to be cast ...
