... a little. At Boroughbridge, I checked the direction using maps.me (thanks Yvonne!!) and had my breakfast under the shelter in the middle of the market place to keep out of the rain. 2 warm boiled eggs, cold baked beans and a Jazz apple, then off up the road to find Walton & Co. I SO love walking places and feel a huge sense of achievement when I to a little out-of-the-way place under my own steam (and with the help of public transport).

Off we go, shorter day, weather is good but still soggy under foot, thought we needed to build a raft, decided on a 500 metre detour, raining again, we did not need that !! , health is also good, 16 miles covered, that's now 76 in total and on schedule, my advice especially with this section, Danby Wiske to Richmond is you need a very good map reader as it is not sign posted well. ... of the carving etc. Cunningly hidden under the paneling in the library is an old altarpiece with the emblems of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon on it. It is the only known place where these emblems survive together as they were all destroyed when Henry married Anne Boleyn. Hence why they were hidden. It was put in by a man named Thomas Bromley who rose from nowhere to hold important posts during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary Tudor. Must have walked a fine ...
