We will have to settle for seeing several cheeky monkeys at home rather than the Three Wise Monkeys that decorate the gate.

Nikko is nice though, and the world heritage park pleasant. Big cedar trees, a nice river and some good walks. The only downside of visiting parks in Japan is that there is no place to rest or sit down. They all no seats anywhere so you just keep walking so by the end of my day in Nikko I was a bit foot sore.

... carving was so ornate and we had a great time exploring. From the time we got off the train we kept going uphill, staircase after staircase. There was one leading up to a tomb in the woods which has become a shrine. Though my legs started to get wobbly it was all so beautiful and worth it.
