... five cities(cinque terre) that sit atop the hillsides and are connected by ferry, rail or foot. Marianne and Natalie traversed all the way from one end to the other ( 5 hours) and took the train back to the starting point. Slight change of plans - we left Roma at 2pm driving out easily - thank you Sarina (Tomtom) and headed for Asti - Guido navigated the autostrada like a champ and no wrong turns thru the crazy Genoa labyrinth of tunnels. Got in at about 9pm and headed out for some sparkles and dinner.
Gianni and Luca looked after Gran and Papa Tuesday morning visiting the local market and exploring the medieval centre of beautiful Asti. Guido and I headed off to attend a family funeral nearby. Sad ...

Woke up bright and early to go to train station as Bruno was panicking. We got there just after six thirty and our train was leaving at seven fifty seven. So we sat and waited........ There was a strike so some trains were cancelled which made us even more nervous about our train. Luckily it was a main line so was still running. Our carriage was right up the other end, and some young fellow saw we looked confused and pounced! ...
