Today was another 'bus day' as we left the food and wine and lights of Lyon in search of the warmth and sun of Nice. However, before we got to Nice, we made a minor detour to the city of Avignon. The city is still completely enclosed by the original walls and was where the popes resided when it was decided that they should live in France rather than Rome. Like the city walls, the papal palace is still very much intact. The city was very windy and cold, one of the coldest places we had been so...
Nice, France croucherDay five of the tour was a free day in Nice. We had made plans yesterday about how we would spend today, it should have gone like clock work, and it would have too... only I had a minor heart attack when I thought I'd lost one of my passports. You'd think that there were only so many places it could be in a hotel room, and that it wouldn't take long to find. Well you'd be wrong. I spent almost an hour looking for the passport, only to finally find it in a bag that had slipped under my bed. By...
Nice, France croucher On this morning we left Switzerland and travelled south into Italy en-route to the French Riviera. The scenery was pretty spectacular, with snow-white capped, jagged mountains that seemed to swallow the highway. Surreal!
When we arrived at our hotel we had about 30 mins to get ready for our trip into Monaco! On our drive to Monaco we crossed the bridge that Grace Kelly was killed on in a car accident. The roads are pretty curly so it really isn't surprising that accidents are a regular...

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.
Monaco, Monaco tilman... have an amazing view from Colline du Chateau. On saturday (November 28) we had sunshine and 19 degrees (end of November) and I was even swimming in the sea (15 gegrees), on sunday, November 29 we had rain and thunderstorms so that caused a delay of the plane of three hours. Best breakfast in town you find in "Les pains a tables" close to the market. Nice is a city IŽd love to visit once a year minimum.....
Nice, Provence, France tilman... upon me it feels very strange and somewhat daunting. But to my knowledge no one has ever died from teaching children so I am sure I will survive.... My Amazon book order should arrive soon to inspire me. I am really looking forward to discovering the 100 things you can do with a paper plate. Life is never going to be the same!!
More when I start travelling...
... so we are hoping that our 9kg will suffice but I am not confident. We have been on the continent 5 weeks now and we are still on the first bottle but it is near impossible to guess how much is left. My best guess is that there is a 1/4 left (give or take a 1/4) Electric Boogaloo ... Keeping the lights on We have 2 batteries, one for the car to start and one for leisure. When the Car battery is full then the leisure battery is recharged. We can also hook up to Mains ...
Les Arcs sur Argens, Provence, France darrenhough74... However, something that we noticed this time were those wonderful Clementine oranges that we often buy during the holiday season. They are grown in the south of France and in Spain (where we are now). We’ve been eating at least 2 each, per day. We actually started eating them a few weeks ago in order to prepare ourselves for places where we will follow the peel it, wash it or boil it (or forget it!) rule if we want to eat fresh produce.

... and Cannes. Dani was pumped for Cannes as this is where they hold THE Cannes film festival. Unfortunately, just as our luck would have it, the train we took was delayed by almost 2 hours, and we still don't know why. So it took us much longer to get to our first stop on our journey which was Antibes. We had been recommended to have some lunch there and apparently they have an awesome market. However thanks to the aforementioned delay, and our silly Dubcheck moves which will be revealed ...
Nice, Provence, France dan-and-dee... goodness we didn't bring anything important as we didn't want to leave it on the beach while we were swimming so the only thing we needed to fix was my humiliation! We packed up right after ringing out our clothes and started walking back drenched. We found a very contemporary Asian noodle place and had dinner then got packed to be at the train station for 5:30, where unlike what I had said on the previous blog we had the 12 hour trip to Spain. Over all Nice ended up being quite Nice!
