... lot in the quakes but 4 years on we didn't expect to see so much dereliction. The guides say there are murals to brighten the transitional city but in some ways the graffiti adds to feel of a post apocalyptic world. The often pretty, vibrant artworks are juxtaposed with broken or boarded up windows of forgotten buildings. Walkable from our house, ...

Dinner tonight is with Ian, John 'Seagull' Dighton and Eric 'Hagar the Horrible' Streat and while we were looking for a Chinese place we end up at another Thai restaurant. I have the minced pork toast and a Thai coconut chicken soup - it was fabulous.

... Dua. My anger at the state of Balangan Beach, had driven me to seek out tropical sands elsewhere, and the travel scriptures had spoken kindly of Nusa Dua. Crossing into the town was like crossing the divide from poor to rich. We had to go through a barrier manned by a security guard and then suddenly we were in a pristine area of closely manicured gardens and extravagant water fountains. The dust and rubbish that frequents most Asia towns was non existent, yet outside ...
