Drove today on the Redwood Highway, mostly Hwy 101. The morning fog evaporated quickly and we had a full day of sun: from 54F to 74F by the afternoon. Great vistas when the road went to the coast at Eureka and Crescent City and fabulous scenery (redwoods and forest) the rest of the way here. No elk sightings, despite many signs promising same.

We spent a pleasant night camping at Sonoma Coast State Park (N38 20.267 W123 03.443) not far from Bodega Bay. At $31 a night it was fair value offering hot showers and a nice forest setting about a km back from the beach. But that damp air still encroached on us at night! Whilst

    ... a bit strange.

Our next stop was to see if we could see some elk grazing in the "Elk Meadow" that was inside the Redwood National Park. We were in luck and saw several elk. I have attached a picture. Then we went to the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park to look for more elk and found some just laying around by a farmhouse along the road. They looked very comfortable there ...

We continued on the 2 lane road until
we finally hit I-5. We knew we would have to make up time for taking
so long on the 2 lane, so once out there, away we went. We have
stopped a tad short of our goal for the night, but not too far off.
Goal tonight was Grants Pass and we stopped at Medford. We did find
that 80 degree weather, but only for an hour or so. Nothing to get
    to excited ...
