Cheap & filthy

from CousinJack
Cheaply built, in dire need of redecoration, and the staff really do not care ! Bar opens to suit staff convenience, not when it is supposed to open.

Stayed here in June 2004 and I shall never set foot in another Fitzpatrick hotel. General impression was dire. everything fithy ! I had a lump of chewing gum stuck to the bed hadboard, and an empty beer bottle and glass left on the top of the wardrobe. Bothe still there when I left 4 days later.

Restaurant service based closely on the Fawlty Towers model and the food is expensive and poor.

A good place to avoid !

Thumbs up, the best

I was there for a few days. On july21, I wanted to visit the CLIFFS of MOHER. Your people at the front desk, were very busy that day, but one of your young ladys, her name being NICOLE took the time to show me a map and direction on how to get there.I was deeply impressed, with all your staff. This is my 4th time in Ireland,i always stay at the FITZPATRICKin BUNRATTY.I wrote you this short E. Mail to let you know, that Bunratty FITZPATRICKis the best.

P.S. I travel to SLIGO, as my roots are there.

Have a good day

Never again!

We stayed at this hotel just two weeks ago and the memory still hasn't faded. It was so dirty, dingy and sticky, yes sticky, anytime you touched something it remained stuck to your fingers. They claim to be a four-star hotel, but I have stayed in much cleaner and better two-star hotels. The lobby was shabby with greasy tables, worn-out chairs and general dark and gloomy. But to make matters worse, the staff were sometimes what can only be described as scruffy and dirty. On our first night we ate in the hotel's restaurant, the food was fine but again the interior was shabby as were in fact the waiters. We decided to eat in the bar on our second night, not a good idea. The tables were greasy, the menu once again sticky. As for the leisure center, actually gaining access to it is something to be believed. One possibility is to walk outside and around the hotel, great, especially when its raining. This center is also open to people who are not residents, which is fine, but the lockers have no locks, which means your belongings are left without any supervision. After asking the attendant for a lock, I was told that my belongings would be fine. Sorry, but I think that is completely irresponsible.

All in all, staying in this hotel is an experience I will certainly never repeat.

Dark dingy and dated...

from sunny321
We were at a wedding here and paid over the odds for the room we felt. We waited 2 hours to check- in as the room wasn't ready and were late for the wedding. They tried to house us in the annex( a fly infested chalet away from hotel, And the door wouldn't lock) .We complained strongly to the manager and were told the hotel was full..ie overbooked. When we looked for a refund he changed his mind and put us in a better room in the hotel. Hotel style was very dated and very dark. Food was poor..Simply dreadful overall!

Last time at the Fizpatrick Bunratty

Unless some real work is done on this property, I will not go back. My last of 3 stays was Oct. 2003.

Oh so handy and nice too!

from Lin.4
Stayed here early October 2003 and found the hotel to be very handy and lovely spacious rooms. There is a shuttle bus that runs to & fro the airport - wish the staff had told us about this! Apart from that oversight, we found the staff to be courteous and pleasant at all times. Breakfast buffet is recommended and proximity to Bunratty Castle and local eateries/pubs excellent. Would have no hesitation in staying here again!

Past its best

from Redt
Have stayed here a few times due to local work committments. Standards of maintenance and general upkeep are below expectations. I once complained about the half inch deep water spreading across two metres of the bedroom floor, to be told by the admittedly overrun and charming porter that "some big fella must hae stood out here after a shower". A plumbing leak was the real answer not surprisingly. Room decor is well past its best and shabby in places. Location is fantastic, right next to Bunratty Castle and the world famous Durty Nellies. Better value to be found in the area, no doubt. At other times, windows and telephones have been faulty.

Worst hotel in area

Very overpriced. The rooms and hallways smell of mold disrepair is evident everywhere and the staff is indifferent. The pub would be nice if the bartenders had a better attitude. I stayed here ten years ago and it was bad then. I returned recently ony because it was close to the airport. There are many better and cheaper hotels in the area.

Fantastic

My family stayed at the Fitzpatrick Hotel near Bunratty Castle on the night of Aug 21 - 22. My mother stayed in one room and my wife and I stayed in another. Not only have we never stayed in a nicer place, we have never stayed in a place as nice. The room my wife and I stayed in was so nice - and so huge, we thought they had mistaken us for the Prince of Wales. We had to try our room keys several times to ensure we had the right rooms.

The hotel is located within walking distance of Bunratty Castle, Durty Nellie's Pub and the Bunratty Folk Village - all of which are must sees when visiting Ireland.

The staff was extremely polite, the service was top-notch and the breakfast the next morning, while buffet-style, was superior. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations or a better stay.

A truly great hotel! Many thanks!

Overrated and Overpriced

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Fitzpatrick Hotel Bunratty is an overrated and overpriced hotel (its really not a hotel by a 1970s style motor lodge) that did not live up to its price or reputation. The general cleanness and maintenance of the property was poor. The rooms were dirty, the faucet leaked, and the wallpaper was peel off of the walls.
