... I floated there I held their boards steady and then gave them a push when the right wave came along. Annick got some great runs in but Do's board was very wobbly. So she swapped with Annick and also got in a couple of really good rides. Then it was time for our lesson. I asked Jonathan what the technique was to actually catch a wave. He gave a pretty good explanation and then we went in to practice. His tips really helped, and with nary a helping hand from him we managed to catch ...

... of peope out in the main street and festive music blaring out from the many bars and restuarants. We decided to mix and match. We started with some cocktails in a roof top restuarant (Mojitos, Margaretas and Virgin Coladas!) and then moved on to a Churrascaria for Picanhas (soft slices of beef). Next we found a little ice cream palour for Sorvete and then rounded the evening off with a (decent) coffee in a cute little bar. It was a super way to end the ...

Not fully understanding the menu we managed to totally overorder by ...

... for those looking to learn how to ride the waves. As the tide was coming in around our feet we wandered along the beach to Praia do Amor and settled down under an umbrella at 'Beachclub 4:20', where we stayed for the rest of the afternoon. The strong wind provided a natural airco and whipped up the already rough surf. It was a very pleasant spot - we had lunch, a few drinks and just relaxed in the sun watching the Brazilian boys toy with the surf ...

... and we were tired. The roads were badly lit and it seemed like a maze of streets that we drove through, first out of Natal itself and then, after a bit on a highway, another maze of streets to Pipa. Every town we passed through had unmarked speed bumps and we almost hit first a cow and then later two horses which were just wandering in the road. But we got there eventually, found our Pousada, checked in with the sleepy clerk and retired to ...
