Today would be our last day in Pipa. We'd loved Praia do Madeiro so much that we decided to go back there. By 10:25 we'd settled into exactly the same loungers that we'd vacated the evening before. I couldn't accept being so clueless in the surf yesterday afternoon so decided on a second lesson. Sid said she wanted to join me so we went in search of Jonathan. He wasn't available for an hour or so so Do and Annick took two boards and I went out into the surf with them to give them a ...

We've had absolutely fantastic weather everyday on our trip so far but awoke to quite heavy rain this morning. This delayed our move to the beach a bit but luckily it did not go on for too long and allowed us to take a taxi out to Praia do Madeiro. To our amazement this was an even more beautiful beach than the other 3 that we'd been on in Pipa. Absolutely stunning - just how one would describe the perfect tropical beach....>2kms long, fine light ...

... the chance to see the Dolphins up close. It was another in the long line of special and unique moments that Brasil had presented us throughout our trip. Then it was time for our sprints. Do and I jogged over to a quiet spot of thicker sand and laid out a 50 m track. Here we dashed up and down working up a serious sweat whilst the Dolphins looked on. Significantly out of breath we dived into the water to cool off before doing some situps, ...

... the surfing fraternity. From then on it slowly grew out into a well established tourist spot popular more with Brazilian tourists than with international travellers. Even though hundreds of pousadas have grown up like mushrooms out of the dunes along with touristy shops, bars and restuarants, it has managed to retain a lot of its old charm and feel. There is one main street in Pipa which, unlike Bonito's tourist trap, had a lovely feel to it. Pipa is ...

... and we were tired. The roads were badly lit and it seemed like a maze of streets that we drove through, first out of Natal itself and then, after a bit on a highway, another maze of streets to Pipa. Every town we passed through had unmarked speed bumps and we almost hit first a cow and then later two horses which were just wandering in the road. But we got there eventually, found our Pousada, checked in with the sleepy clerk and retired to ...
