We spent the morning at the salt mine. The tour starts with putting coveralls on. We then went on a mini train. If you were taller than 6 feet you have to be careful because there is not much headroom. The tunnels are very narrow. You start the tour by sliding down a 50 foot wooden slide to the mine. They explain how they mine the salt. There use to be a salt water ocean 14 million years ago that evaporated ...

We spent the day in Salzburg, about 30 km from Ramsau. After breakfast we headed to a park and ride on the outskirts of Salzburg and took the bus into downtown. Parking is crazy and expensive in the tourist area. It was only about 15 minutes into town. The shops, churches and fortress were amazing. Everything is expensive. We didn't buy much. We toured the cemetery by St. Peter's church and ...

We rented our car first thing in the morning. Some crazy American lady pushed in front of me to complain about her limousine being to small and not being able to fit all her luggage. They gave her a bigger car probably to get rid of her. I rented a station wagon, Skoda. Brand new. Goes fast on the highway. Couldn't get very far very fast as the autobahn was jammed for miles out on Munich as everyone was headed out of the city. Cleared up ...

... lifts to the top and walking along the ridges right in the middle of the lovely Austrian alps.
What we didn't know, was how much we would enjoy the resort. It was right on the edge of a delightful village. Ski village in the winter and hiking, biking and walking in the summer using the lifts and cable cars. The resort was family owned and offered half board which we accepted.....that includes, full buffet ...

... we were having an easy day, the walk up out of the car park to the canyon was pretty steep. They charge admission to the canyon because of the boardwalks and bridges so we bought some tokens and headed up further past the German cows.

Heading through the turnstiles, we were greeted with a refreshingly cool wave of air blowing down the canyon. It is hard to describe these sorts of things, but it was something like out of a movie like Lord of the Rings ...
