Adventures of Sanur

... eye movements seem near impossible to a foreigner. Its like they are not double but triple jointed!<br><br>'Today', September 2009<br>Sanur Bali, Indonesia:<br><br>We woke up for an early start and hired a driver for the day, first we went to see the Barong dance. It was very theatrical and humorous. The costumes were amazing. It was interesting to compare today's music with last nights. The musicians had much more experience and the music was sweet to my ears. This ...

Bali Hai Season

... and reading. For more money than we paid for our lovely house in Sanur, we got a very basic hut with no air-con and a cold water shower. There wasn't even any glass in the windows, so the front of the hut was completely exposed offering no security, sound proofing or privacy when we turned the lights on. There seemed to be only two CD's on the entire island - the best of Bob Marley and the worst of Jack Johnson. We decided to leave after 2 days, but when we tried to book a ...

... so all of us smelling pretty bad and definitely not fitting in went from hotel to hotel pretending to be interested in staying. Sometimes we were not welcome right away, and sometimes the workers were pulling out room keys to tour us through the rooms, we finally settled on freeloading on the hotel with the coolest pool and a giant chess board! Just to stay nonchalant about it, we decided to take action shots and do cannon balls! Stay tuned until next time!

Just flew in...and boy are my arms tired.

... the summer -- very humid. Everybody is really nice so far, and smiling...not as pushy as my India experience (mostly comparing the airports). So off to a great start. Except for when I arrived, they said my room reservations had been cancelled and they were all booked. Will sort THAT out tomorrow, but it'll be fine. If not, I'll just sleep but naked on the beach and pray the mosquitos don't notice me.

Congratulations - You Star Winner!!

... at Mini Mart. Sweet. We recovered from the long/painful and disappointing morning with some most excellent pasta at an uppity sort of restaurant. Not quite as excellent as my Chicken Chunk Spagetti with Corn Salsa at Pizza Hut (once again the expat's choice :-)) last night but still pretty tasty. It's been a pretty lazy past couple of days... pretty much filled with eating, sleeping, swimming, and shopping. Can't complain! Sometime tomorrow ...

... complete thumbs that worked independently of each other - amazing! On the other hand even more grossly he had a thumb that was half split down to the first knuckle into two... He was a holy man who was renting out a house... All I could do not to ask him for a photo, and whether any other parts of his anatomy were also split... mind you he was a bit old so maybe not. Avoided that clear faux pas only to encounter a whole list of freaks ...

... Mental!! Expensive error so far and who knows how expensive it will become! Antony had spent the morning in the pool so we had lunch in the pool and thenstrolled into Sanur to look at the beach and got hijacked by people offering us to look in their shop. After mastering the art of no thanks we headed to a bar to yes please the 2 pound coctails!! the next day we headed to Turtle island. we got picked up from our hostel, driven to the beach, fitted with fins ...

Eat the pig

... combination of pepperoni and good bacon. My suspicion is that Bourdain's review has led to such an influx of tourists lusting after babi guling that it is impossible to keep up with demand without compromising slow-roasted quality. My serving tasted like it had been carved off a slightly-underdone microwaved pig. Or perhaps I was too late in the day, and would have done better showing up at 11 a.m. Anthony, you owe me one.

Off for the Weekend to the beach!

... isn't infected at all with corporate giants or gigantic white resorts, and it was surprising to see something familiar here. Arriving back in Ubud felt like coming home. I can't believe I've been here so long, only one more week and then I'm off to Lovina on the north side of the island. I found out I can get my SCUBA license by an internationally recognized school there in only four days. That'd be a cool thing to do while I'm up there. We'll see how ambitious I am.
