It would seem most of the other beach goers had forgotten their swimmers but given it was pretty hot decided to swim regardless. Well that is what we decided happened anyway. Varna is a pretty nondescript town. Third largest in Bulgaria, with a large port and beaches. And a history of Mafia. We went to ANOTHER archeological museum. So, it turned out that the gardens surround of the palace complex, and many parts designed by Maria herself. She was a ...

... the ancient history of a region. Apparently, there are 100,000 artefacts, and you could easily spend a day there. The 5000 year old gold jewellery and the recreation of tombs from the necropolis were stunning. Again in a place where there only seemed to be about 3 other people (including a man with very squeaky sandals that kept making me laugh).

The necropolis section is the one most highly rated in the guide ...
