We are staying on the outer canal ring just along from the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museums. The Rijksmuseum won out as it was the closest and was such a fascinating building. It was closed for 10 years while extensive renovations were done. There's a great YouTube video of a flash mob re enacting Rembrandt's The Night Watch in a shopping mall to advertise the opening last year. (Just Google Night ...

All over Amsterdam

... area of the city. Since the city was for the longest time the largest harbor in the world, it was only going to be as functional as its waterways. That is why the series of canals were created. I didn't realise this at all so kept expecting people to tell me they were closing at 5 or 6pm. I went back to the Anne Frank house and the queue was the same length as before. I read that the queuing time was 45 minutes (I waited an hour in the end). I ...

Day 3 - Bus Wanderers
It was raining and it was cold. We didn't know what we wanted to do so we bought City Sightseeing bus tickets and sat on a sightseeing bus for a couple of hours. The bus drives a set route around the city and also acts as a hop on hop off. In my opinion, we should have done this on day 1, because we did see things that we thought would be good but were running out of time. It was pretty cheap to do and was fun. We were given ...
