... later, we made our first stop in Uitdam, a tiny hamlet on the shores of the IJselmeer. Here we ate shrimps and smoked eels, and drank homemade lemonade. We made another stop later for dessert in Marken, a village on an island. We tasted a really good Mont Blanc ice-cream. ... bikes on one of our days and explored Amsterdam the "right" way. Upon my request, we visited the red light district. This may be the biggest shock that I felt on my entire trip. I couldn't believe that girls, many close to my age, were showcasing themselves, each behind a separate glass door, and waiting for some grimy dude to walk up.
