... we didn't stop - and then along a large lake where again the scenery was beautiful. On arriving in Salida, our first impressions were not great. It looked a bit scruffy and quiet. An hour or so later, we realised it was in fact very arty and laid back so we took much more of a liking to it. It is the start of a three day art and literature festival here tomorrow so we will see what that ...

... turns out a cyclist had gone off the road and hurt himself pretty badly. When we arrived the MedFlight helicopter was just taking off. The pass was interesting because most of the drive was on dirt. The RAM did very well - that what it is made for. We also traveled along Taylor Reservoir - one of many huge lakes in Colorado.

We look forward to visiting Randy and Dori again in the future. They live in a beautiful area.

Another beautiful sunny day! We left Durango after mailing a box to Niagara Falls, filling up with gas and returning to the motel for a forgotten water bottle. We drove up hwy 550 (the San Juan highway) to Silverton through the San Juan mountains. The peaks are up around 10, 000 feet through the Molas Pass. When we got to Silverton, we stopped for a short break and took some pictures. It is set in ...

... this was pretty treacherous being that it was all snow. We held onto the trees when it was just too slippy but did unfortunately fall down a couple of times (it was pretty funny I have to say)! We decided that sky pond was obviously too hard to get to, especially for those as unprepared as we so we decided to call it a day and head back. We had done just under 9 miles in around 4 1/2 hours which we were pretty happy with! As we had some time left, we decided to do a 2 mile ...
