Driving over 10,000 ft passes and through 9500 ft meadows could seem a bit mundane after exploring Rocky Mountain Park but it wasn't. We had a safe drive of about 180 miles southwest from Fort Collins through some really beautiful areas with 12,000 ft peaks on either side. We stopped at this state park campground south of Buena Vista Colorado and found a delightful, albeit not level campsite with views of the ...

It’s been a Sabbath of sorts for us today, and I think we need it, especially David. I wonder how many kms he has driven in the past ten days?

Then we dropped a couple of thousand feet again and ascended to the top of Red Mountain Pass at 11,108 ft before dropping back down to 9300 ft and the town of Silverton. All this happened over the 48 miles between Durango and Silverton. This is the path to cross the San Juan Mountains that was started as a toll road back in the 1880's.
Evidently, crossing the San Juan Mountains were ...

... way down the mountain. We got to the top and another Texas truck pulled in behind us and we visited for a few minutes. Then we went down to the town to find a place for lunch. We ended up at "The Fritz" that had a dog friendly patio. We had wonderful sandwiches and then it began to rain and some hail fell, too. It soon stopped and we walked around some and continued our journey. I wanted to stop at Walmart and get a hummingbird feeder. I knew I ...
