... start with some two or three day trips around California. Other trips that I would like to make are: civil war battlefields, transcontinental railroad (Omaha - Sacramento), California Missions, and California League Baseball Stadiums. Best Western is a nice hotel network but stick to the Plus or Premier levels and avoid the basic level unless you do some research on Yelp or TripAdvisor. Next time I plan a trip I will pay more attention to Yelp ...

1 hour in to the journey, feeling a bit hungry, we pulled in to a Black Bear Diner for a "small" bite to eat! First place we have eaten that has felt like Man v's Food! ... my 1st time) but the highway system around Sn Francisco was. Right from the begining we lost some time by going the wrong way, when the 4 or 6 ways highway divided into two different highways.
Tired of this 1st contact with the road in a long time, we stopped in early afternoon in a giant commercial center in a town name Tracy.
A Subway sandwich and the outside of a Starbuck replenished us enough to carry on.
