    July 5, 2015 (LC equivalent westbound May 16, 1804)

    Traveled all of 28 miles from St. Louis to St. Charles MO. It took Clark and the Corps 2 days to move their three boats the same distance against the Missouri River current. They would not have liked the river today because it was above flood stage by about 3 feet and the current was ripping.

    The wide and brown Mississippi River was the big event today ... though crossing it on the Beltway around St. Louis in 5 lanes of heavy traffic = a brief glimpse. Still it impressed me. Otherwise, even more impressive by virtue of their vastness, were the cornfields and, alternately, soybean fields that stretched on through southern Indiana and all across Illinois.
