The plan was to stop for the night at Minot, North Dakota but true to practice this group decides to go on just a little further. Then we could not find a campground so we end up going all the way to East Grand Forks, Minnesota. We had our hopes up at every little town we went through that we would find a place, but we found nothing until we got here at 7:30 at night.
As we were ...
... Bison, wild horses and prairie dog towns ! One bull bison was right on the road and it was a little scary. Morgan was saying "its ok mom, just go wide and keep going!" The younger kids completed their junior ranger program here as well so that was fun ! We enjoyed exploring the shops of the town and went to the cowboy hall of fame ! Coralyn has a new cowboy boyfriend who is the best kind of boyfriend ! We love that he is cardboard and I love him as a son ...
Fargo, North Dakota, United States pringlefarmGood morning to all you followers. We made it to my sister Heather's house in Moorhead, MN. We drove all through the night and got here about 5am. It was good driving, all the girls slept. We drove over 500 miles over country roads from my Aunt's farm in Union Center, SD, where we left around 9pm and after a wonderful dinner and visit. More on that later. I just wanted to let you know we are safe and sound and not getting back into a car until tomorrow morning ...

We also crossed the Red River coming into Fargo N.D. We saw three trains today loaded with coal headed east. On a giant billboard we saw the message "Be Grateful" and we are!

We left a few hours later, our hearts set on getting as far away from Valley City as possible. Funny story though, before we left town we needed to fuel up. We stopped at a gas station on main street (think ghost town if you want a visual) and filled up the car. We also went inside to grab some snacks for the ride to Teddy Roosevelt National Park.
Inside there were two nice gentlemen manning the registers. At one register, you found us checking out. At the other ...
... there are pictures of the floods in 1997 which completed flooded the area in which we are camping, even though we are some distance from the Red River. On our way, a deer crossed the road in front of our camper and then seemed very confused and darted about the median. It is easy to see how they get killed on the roads. We arrived quite early in the afternoon and have taken the opportunity to get our laundry washed and get organized for our arrival in Winnipeg tomorrow.

The Cabela's manager donated a hat with a neck shade and gaiters. Don mentioned in his call to me today that he had observed something about rainbows as he passed through North Dakota. "It seems," he said, "that the colors of a rainbow are brightest when the clouds are the darkest."

The original Whitey's and a lot of other property was destroyed in the great floods (and subsequent fires) that plagued the Mississippi and its tributaries back in the snow melt of 1997. The river at fault here is the Red River of the North; the ...
