... Pass out! Long Day!
Day 2 in Pella,
Step One. Spend an obscene amount of money at Walmart getting all the necessities that we could not bring from home. My God! The little things like silverware, cups, sheets, etc... Really add up.
Step Two. Fix many things that I did not know needing fixing. Pretty much took all day, but it is to be expected.
Step Three.. Take in the local Flavor of Iowa. So what do Iowans ...
Today we got in the car and drove to Nevada... Iowa! I took a long nap and that felt so good. Then we arrived in Brooklyn... Iowa! We said we all wished it was home but that washed away when we started eating at the "classic" deli. Emma and I had a make your own sand witches with turkey pickles and mozzarella for Emma ...
... and memorabilia for sale as well as tickets to view the 5 room house of his first 3 years. The house had many pictures, memorabilia from personal and movie life and letters from famous people. We were not allowed to take any pictures inside the house.
Outside there was a nice bronze statue of the Duke placed where the future home of the museum will be built. After visiting John Wayne’s birth home which was in Madison ...

This was such a change from the many struggling farm communities we have seen
throughout the Midwest. The town was founded
by a Dutchman back in the 1800s who brought back a couple of hundred of his
countryman to farm the area. We had just missed the annual Tulip Festival the
first weekend of May. This is a must see stopover if you are ever in Central Iowa,

... was having a Customer Appreciation Day where we had lunch for a buck. The Pella door & window factory is also here, but we didn't have time to go on a tour, but the factory is huge. The canals through town have all been drained for the year, but the little wind mills and water ways, and the style of buildings is like being in a little village in Holland.
