Oklahoma As we entered Oklahoma, the road reduced to a single broken tarmac road with gravel verges to allow passing. We managed a few miles of it before reaching an intersection with a later alignment. Oklahoma had been the poorest state at the time Route 66 was designated so much of the route would be poor road surface and as we found, poorly signed. West of the Mississippi
Two days into our trip, and we have crossed the Mississippi River. This is the first time the kids have been this far west. Their reaction to the Mississippi was, "It's not very big!" Oh well, maybe when we stop in St. Louis on the way home, and take a riverboat tour, they will be more impressed.

Decided to stay here a couple of nights, instead of just one - and we'll make it a day trip in the car to Ft. Smith tomorrow...then, on Friday, we'll go directly to Little Rock, we're we'll be parked right on the river for 3 nights - should be a fun place to be!

Overnight Okies in Muskogee!
I guess summer is officially over, as we left the Midwest this morning, and are fast approaching Texas. We pulled into this park and set up quickly, as the black sky promised a downpour, but within an hour or two the sun shone brightly, and a few hours later, a full moon lit the sky! Wish the outlook for the Detroit Tigers was as bright - but the Lions sure pulled off a nice win tonight!

... BBQ Joint book) we stopped in Sallisaw, OK for BBQ at a place called the Wild Horse Mountain Bar-B-Que. We got there just as they were opening which was good as we had plenty of room to park. Of course, when you pull up in a 40' motor home and toad into the parking lot (particularly a small parking lot) people kind of notice. Anyway, we were given a warm greeting by everyone in the room. ...
