    ... in at us. Big, crazy looking things look very much like they want revenge and no doubt deserve it!

    Independence pass snuck up on us and all of a sudden we were amongst more classic alpine scenery, higher than Mt Cook, and then down the other side to the narrowest of jutting cliff/precipice of doom type roads we had encountered so far, before popping out in Aspen.

    Aspen is another Queenstown, but without the lake so not quite as beautiful, no doubt ...

    Up with the sun (well, sort of), and after a simple cold breakfast our permit holder, Jill and her husband the trip leader, Frank added up all of the costs: permit fee, car shuttle cost and food for on the river. The trip cost each of the nine of us a huge total of $121.00. Not bad for four days of food, lodging and exquisite scenery!

    And seriously hot it was! Thankfully the night wasn't too bad, mainly due to the continental land mass (dredging GSCE Geography...) making it cool at nights, but by 0700 it was baking and the planned morning run long abandoned...
