Historical Traveler Reviews of Buckingham Hotel - 1 Bedroom Suite New York City
What a nice hotel!
from A TripAdvisor Member
I did a lot of research on New York City hotels & found the Buckingham Hotel. Our suite was very nicely decorated & was very clean! We've stayed in bigger & more well-knowned hotels before but the Buckingham was very impressive. The suite we stayed in was large. They were able to provide everything we requested prior to our arrival (extra pillows & towels, crib & we also requested 2 full beds in the bedroom). All of them were granted! The hotel staff was also very accomodating & very nice! They even arranged for our ride to the airport & the gentleman behind the desk went out of his way to help us load our belongings into the car. We had a lot of luggage so we definitely appreciated his assistance. The hotel was very conveniently located (2 blocks from Central Park, 5th Ave. shopping was around the corner, lots of great restaurants & stores in the area). Over all, I will definitely recommend the Buckingham & will most certainly stay there again! Great price for great accomodations!
More than acceptable for the price and location

This was my very first trip to New York City and I was shocked at the hotel prices when I started investigating. I can usually find great deals through Travelocity and other online sites for around $100, even in places like San Francisco, but the ones I was finding in NYC had horrible customer reviews attached to them. I finally settled on the Buckingham for $159 on the nights in October that I was staying, and was more than pleased. Aside from the fact that I was NEVER in my room, when I was there, it was roomy and clean and a fine place to spread out and rest up from the day's adventures. Granted, it wasn't the Plaza, but who needs that unless it's your honeymoon and your sole purpose in renting a room is to pull the shades and never leave? NYC is to be experienced OUTSIDE the walls of a hotel, and this little place allowed me a clean and friendly home base a block from Central Park and 5th Avenue. I was more than happy - I'm going back next week en route to London and will likely stay there again!
Great NYC Marathon hotel!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
This was a fair-priced hotel in a perfect location for NYC marathon participants. It's less than a $5 cab ride to Jacob Javits, and is about 8 minutes from the shuttle bus location. Family members are only 2 minutes from a vantage between mile 25 and 26 of the marathon. It's also a $5 cab ride from all the other sites in midtown (ESB, Times Square, etc.). If you are bringing kids to MYC, you couldn't ask for a better spot because of the suites. (It's like having 2 bedrooms). Our room was clean and large--everything you could hope for in a hotel in a large city.
Think twice about the Buckingham
from MDMANTHE
We found the Buckingham to have a more than a few problems. Such as stains on the carpet, very small bathroom, room looked as though it had not been vacuumed before we arrived(room never looked as though it received a very good cleanning),very noisy, and beds very uncomfortable. Also when we first arrived our room was very hot. We were told we couldn't regulate or own temperature. We needed to have a maintenance person come to our room to turn on and off the heat or air, or we were told by the unfriendly front dest we should just open our window if we were too warm. To top it all off we were changed and extra $20.00 dollars a night for a rollaway we didn't even have.
A refined and elegant oasis in the city

As a native New Jerseyan (now Virginian) whose life has inlcuded New York City intimately since I was a child, and who now stays in hotels when I visit there, I can honestly say that the the Buckingham Hotel is, without a doubt, the nicest hotel I have ever spent time in thre.
-- My husband, daughter and myself have been there several times, and really appreciate the fact that all rooms are suites, well-furnished, clean, and in the case of the more newly-decorated ones, quite elegant.
-- The staff is pleasant, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Because this is also a residence hotel (boasting such acclaimed past inhabitants as Artur Rubenstein and Van Cliburn!), and frankly caters to working muscians in the area, do not expect the kind of service that you would get in a luxury hotel. For me, this is a small price to pay to be able to stay in such a pleasant environment, and at a reasonable price, right in the middle of my favorite part of Manhattan - two blocks from Central Park South, across from Carnegie Hall, and a healthy walk to the theater district and 5th Ave. shopping!
A Bargain in the Heart of the Big Apple!
from Boston-FOB
A mid-town hotel providing comfort and amenities at a bargain price! We have a suite with kitchette and huge closets, coffee maker, CD stereo, 2 TVs, and the best shower in NYC! This hotel even has a decent exercise room. Yes, it was a little noisy - that's only to be expected in the heart of the BIG APPLE. And rooms at the suites hotels a block up start at double the price for less than you receive at the Buckingham! Very attractive and classy hotel with a welcoming and professional staff. Highly recommended for people who appreciate value!
Good location, good hotel

Nice room, well laid out. Little kitchen helpful. Good location quite near two major subway lines. Close to theatre district (walk or take subway). Close to park. Price was reasonable.
Great location but you get what you pay for

I accidentally found the hotel when I was browsing through an Internet travel site, and thought that this hotel was a great deal. However, the bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly with the shower tiles and doors still had mildew stains. And being on the third floor, I heard all the traffic and construction noise on 57th street. When I called the clerk to inquire if there is another room available he said why, I told him its because all the noise. But apparently there were no other rooms available and I did not get any decent sleep while I was there. Therefore, Im sorry to say that, I would not stay at this hotel anytime soon.
A Hidden Gem!

After doing much research on what hotel to stay in while I'm there for a weekend stay, I came across this hotel on this website! I'm so glad I did! The location is wonderful-1 block from Central Park and one block from 5th Avenue! Lobby is quaint and cozy and the rooms (all suites) are beautiful! I decided on this hotel because the rooms were not the typical hotel rooms with 2 double beds and usually small in NYC! These rooms are huge! You walk in and you have a kitchen, dining area, living room (with pull-out couch), parquet floors, beamed ceilings, tv in the bedroom and LR, windows you can actually open! I could go on and on-very impressed and I promise you will be too! Price is amazing for the size, beauty and location of this hotel! Go there, enjoy yourself and feel secure in your selection!
Comfortable hotel, pleasant room..

This was a great hotel. The room was very large with a walk-in closet and kitchenette. Lots of elbow room which was very nice. Comfortable bed, everything clean...
I would definitely recommend this hotel. I usually prefer staying in the UWS but this location was good since it was only a block from CP. (If you like being in the midtown madness, then this is definitely the place for you!). I would stay here again.
