... can watch all the processes they go through to make the cheese, which was pretty interesting! We watched the cheese-makers go through all the processes for quite a while and had a drink at in the restaurant before going back to Gossau for an authentic cheese Fondue!
We got up early the next morning and said goodbye to Heinz and Elsa, and caught our 1st train to get to Prague. It took us about 10.5 hours to get there.. LOOOOOONG time sitting on trains!!
We found Kieran and James waiting for us in a garage, and after a quick look at the bodge, we set off again, heading for Lake Bodensee and Austria.
We were at the head of the convoy, using the GPS to check we were still on the correct route, and we stopped at a set of traffic lights for roadworks. Kieran took adavantage of a nearby apple tree to scrump himself a snack, and when the lights changed, we set off up a curve, on a relatively steep section. This ...
... weren't too interested so they took Lincoln (who couldn't go with us) and we went to have a look. It was a rewarding visit. It is amazing to think how long ago some of those books and transcripts were written, and how well cared for they must be to remain in excellent condition. The library itself is breathtaking, with leather bound books lining the shelves, large windows (no doubt filtered), elaborate woodwork and staircases, and a muraled ceiling ...
St. Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland travelingdiva... While L and I were waiting we watched as some intrepid climbers took the hard way up to the top. They must have climbed all the way from ground zero. I figure that might be worth accomplishing contrary to my earlier remarks. They would have had a sense of achievement. Just don't tell them there is a train! It was only a five minute trip and we were up on top of Germany. In the distance was Austria and over there was Switzerland and if you really stretched your neck ...
Singen, Germany brianc... house had been turned into guest house. Above the mill loomed the Old Palace reached by crossing a bridge over aforementioned mill. We paid our entry fee and wandered up, down and around this oldest of castles. There was little written information in English so we were ignorant as to much of its history. But we could see that it was very old...7th century it said somewhere...although I doubt there was much remaining from those times other ...
Friedrichshafen, Germany briancToday we drove to Lindau, Germany, and did our own walking tour. Lindau is an island in the eastern part of Lake Constance. It was quite overcast, but still lovely. I'm sure that on a warm summer day it would be filled with people sitting in the sun and enjoying all the open air cafes.
Then we were off around the lake ...
