Whats typical Norwegian

I went to Stavanger in june to attend the beach volleyball world tour, but when I got there I
fund so much else to do that I didnt find the time to watch the volleyball. Its was insane, and
the best part is that everything is so close that you can do alot in one day. I spendt 10 days there
and it is without doubt the best vacation I have ever been on.

I live in Amsterdam and ...

How could I forget a wonderful family day trip!

I can`t believe I forgot this.....

James is a friend of Bruce`s who is from New Brunswick but has lived in and around Stavanger for 20 odd years. He took us out of Stavanger to see some local sights.

I joined James in his vehicle and Bruce and the kids followed. We went to some local beaches and they remind me so much of Nova Scotia. One beach in particular....was the spitting image of ...

The Lysefjord near Stavanger

Another couple mad train rides from Bergen to Oslo and then over to Stavanger took us to small oil town, from where we would make our way to the beautiful lyseford. The fjord is quite deep, and we came to take the hike up to the Preikestolen, high above the fjord. The hike was great, and though we were soaked by rain upon arriving in Stavanger, it wasn't too bad during the 2 hour trek up.

... that the Norway is the most expensive place on earth. I mean, $7 for a slice of pizza. $10 for a bagel sandwich. One place that was splurge-worthy was the little chocolate-and-coffee cafe that Kelley brought us to and where I had the most amazing hot chocolate.

A lot of the old buildings, especially those on the waterfront, have large windows on the middle of every floor and a roof overhang with a pulley attached. This ...

... it is impossible to get the scale of these things. Pulpit Rock is a popular hiking destination - maybe on our next time to Stavanger. Further up the fjord we came to a water fall. The captain maneuvered the boat so that the nose went practically under the water fall. Yes, those of us on the front got a little wet - I took pics and then shoved the camera in my coat. One of the ship's crew collected some of the water from the falls ...

Overnight Train...

... rainy and cold. The location of our hostel was beautiful, though. It was near a huge lake with mountains surrounding it. We checked into our room, which had a sink and the looked like a cabin in the mountains. After resting for the evening, we decided to do our big hike to Preikestolen aka "The pulpit chair" the next morning. It was nicknamed "The pulpit chair" because ...

A nasty end, and home sweet home

... someone had actually attacked me to steal my property! We looked around for the police, but there were none to be seen. Eventually, we decided that nothing was going to stop us from seeing the zoo we had come to see. It was a nice zoo, especially the reptile house, where we could come in from the cold. We also enjoyed seeing the elephants, which was indoors, near the café where we bought coffee and waffles. Not seeing any police around, we made our way back to the hostel and reported ...

Stavanger and Priekestolen

... the quieter Mosvagen Campsite, don't hear screaming organisms here. Stavanger is a very pretty town with a nice mix of old and new building, lake based parks and numerous museums. An interesting museum is the Norwegian petroleum museum and its interactive features aimed at those young at heart. Okay you still get bogged down with the geology but you ...

Snakker du norsk?

Snakker du norsk? Do you speak Norwegian? I started taking Norwegian lessons in the middle of October. At first it was fun; I enjoyed learning the language and I was keen on taking lessons. It started with pronouncing letters and learning numbers and before too long I was really good at hearing the time in the morning on the radio or the total of my groceries at the store. I continued to go ...

... to did well to get out on the rock. There are lot's of photos of people naked balancing on bikes etc out on this rock, it is pretty popular in Norway. That night we had fresh salmon for supper - this time it didn't taste like Benzene but they still hadn't figured out the coal BBQ and I ended up putting mine in the oven! So after two exciting days with Laurie we headed off to Athens Greece for two weeks.
