Only spent one night here. There is only one hostel in town and it is not that great plus you can't drink in this country! Visited the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the Royal Regalia Museum which housed a lot of artifacts from the royal family. We took a boat ride on the Sungai River to see the water village and proboscis monkeys in the jungles just outside the city. No night life to speak of in a dry country so we played Jenga at a coffee shop until we couldn't stand it anymore. Then we headed...

Islamilaista fundamentalismia ja maailman rikkain mies. Maailman pisimpaan yhtajaksoisesti hallinnut monarkkisuku (600 vuotta putkeen) ja kompromissiton Sharia-laki. Shellin ensimmainen oljylahde ja maailman vauraimpiin kuuluva valtio. Borneon sydamessa, Malesian syleilyssa sijaitsevassa Bruneissa kaikki on toisin - tai ehkei sittenkaan.. Vaikka Maata pidetaan yhtena maailman vauraimmista niin katukuvasta kasin sita on kylla yllattaen hanka...

Is Michael Jackson the patron saint of Malaysian air travel or something? I'm just thinking out loud here now. Man in the Mirror is one of the songs Air Asia is playing during boarding and let me set this up properly for you. To call the boarding process laborious, boisterous and slow would be an understatement with no one knowing how to match the seat number on their boarding card to the actual physical product inside the plane. Add to that constant shouting as ...

... the boat wasn't to Lawas at all. We spent $45 on the boat, then when we do finally get dropped at the bus station, we have to pay another $10. Turned into an expensive trip when you add on the $30 for the bus to KK as well!
The trip went pretty quickly as we were both dozing and falling asleep on each other.
Got to KK and got a taxi to take us to a hostel we had seen in Lonely Planet.
Turns out it was only about a block away, and that ...
... a decent wine list. We also watched the Men’s Semi-Finals of Wimbledon whilst there. The match with the British hope, Andy Murray, started at around 10pm Brunei time. We had managed to blag a poolside table at the Sheraton Hotel next door to watch the match whilst eating supper. It just didn’t seem right watching the match without a few beers or a bottle of wine however. It is amazing how much you miss something when you are not ...
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei butterfills... to sit and nothing to do all day but swat away the bees. At one point, Tracey accidentally trod on a bee with her bare foot and ended up with a very painful sting on her big toe. Oh how we laughed! Thankfully the boredom was alleviated by a lunch of plain white rice and boiled cabbage and a dinner of boiled cabbage and plain white rice. Luckily, we had managed to beg some dry old biscuits off someone, which rounded the meal off nicely. That evening ...
Limbang, Sarawak, Malaysia butterfills... fancy looking bungalows, cut grass, life jackets on the boat and even a so called Survivor Bar at in the main house. Plus: electricity and running water, which we still consider luxurious.
We dipped straight into the Borneo jungle adventure by trekking through the jungle only to find a mud volcano. That basically is a mud bath right in the middle of the jungle, originating from methane gasses (or something similar) coming out of the earth. What was ...
... plan today was to try out the bus system, which is very easy even if I had no real idea where I was going... I ended up going to jerong park (sp?) which is this massive amusement park. Shame I was the only one there... As far as I can tell it was really popular and then people stopes going/ I think the sultains brother made it and then lots of rides broke and they never fixed them. On waiting forthe ...
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei france_rejean... his place from the river, you will be very disappointed as we were when we hired a boat to cruise down the river. All we saw was a bunch of thick trees and the top of his house. The water village that seems to be the focus of many tourists is equally unimpressive, but for different reasons. You can get right up close to the water village and even go into it, but there is absolutely nothing to see or do in it. It's just a village that happens to be built on the water. I had no idea why C ...
