    ... merge onto Highway 1. Nevertheless it is not our last gravelly experience. At one point, due to road works, a police car diverts all transportation to another gravel road. This time we have to share it and the ensuing dust with heavy traffic.

    We stop for a picnic lunch beside the Hatea River in Whangarei and then continue south, driving around Auckland on motorways and on to Hamilton.

    ... rock was this totally chilled out vibey kiwi and was just one with the ocean which of course I found hilarious, it was then time to surf which was so much harder than it looks! Luckily rock was on hand and set me up a few times with a good wave by the end I was standing up and everything! Even if it was only for ten seconds!
