It's Tuesday, 16:41. I arrived yesterday afternoon and spent the rest of the day getting to know the others in my Hostel. I'm staying with a Korean girl, and three German geezers, wicked! I stayed up most of the night observing the New York nightlife out the window, it's continuously busy 24/7.
Today I decided to walk all the way down to the bottom of manhattan as the weather was nice and I want to save money on cab fares etc. it was 32 degrees celcius and very sticky. My walk took me...
Today I decided to get myself a Metro unlimited pass for $27, not a bad deal really. I used it to go down to Times Square, I then came across the Empire State Building and thought it would be a really good idea to go up it, it was only $20, and I got a special souvenir map for $8. So yeah that was fun.
I went into Starbucks (there's one every 2 mins as you're walking along) and had a large Mocha with cream. I got the Metro back to 103 St. and went into Dunkin' Donuts to have an Ice...
It's my last full day in New York as I'm leaving for Miami tomorrow at 13:00. I've already been for a jolly downtown to walk about the Financial District and post a letter to one of my work mates at The Regal. I saw the World Trade Center Site; it's a lot bigger than one would imagine. I'm now relaxing for a bit before going out later to Times Square when it's dark; I didn't manage this yesterday as I got chatting to a Spanish girl called Anna and we decided to stay in for the night, we d...
On the final night I finally made it to Times Square to see the attraction at night, I went with the Korean girl and Australian bloke I'm staying with at the moment. I managed to get hold of some Cider so I had a little drink as well which was nice. We also visited the Empire State building again, this time when it was dark, I went right up to the 102nd floor observatory this time; it's much better at night. We got home at 3am and had a slice of pizza, when we got back to the subway someb...
OMG New York is sooooo cold. After the longest Saturday in our lives (starting at 6 am and going on and on and on flying through the time zones) with a stopover in San Francisco, which is a perfectly nice airport, we arrived at Newark airport at around 9 pm local time. We took a taxi to our hotel. Although it was already quite late the hostel was still very busy and we had to wait for quite some time before we were checked in. Not a problem we are on holiday and in relax mode. It snowed when ...
New York City, New York, United States dewolffamilyI confess myself disappointed with the Metropolitian Museum of Art. Particularly in the way visitors are corralled in the entrance to make their so-called voluntary donations. The 'suggested' 'donation' - neither of which are accurate terms - is $20, but before you can get into the museum, you must pass a manned till, which provides you with a decal so that you can wander around the museum only once you have made your 'donation.' Why not just charge an entry fee - it is a more accurate descri...
New York City, New York, United States sahsI could not take an earlier flight out of New York. I tried, I had wanted to arrive home in time for my Brother's 18th, but I could not get on a flight due to the New Years rush. It is strange to think that he is 18 now, and one of the reasons that i think I now constantly refer to him as my 'little' brother, in truth he outstripped me years ago in terms of stature. It hekps to remind me he will never be too big!! In a way it was quite fortunate that I couldn't get a flight, as I have done ve...
New York City, New York, United States sahsThree names that have the lilt of the feminine about them, and three, which, in concert, denote a bulwark of the USA, and of New York in particular. Liberty, a gift of the French (though carefully constructed so that its size did not out-do the Eiffel Tower, that just would not do), Ellis, an initial border control, which, by association is representative of the hopes and aspirations of those who made, and continue to make, their way across the Atlantic (and other oceans) to the US, and Brook...
New York City, New York, United States sahsThe last things on my places to see wish list. Both reasonably priced or free, and in theory, more than enough to fill my day. In theory. That should be noted, because in fact, it was a saturday, and I was greeted at the doors of the UN by the polite sign that the visitor hours for January had been reduced, the centre would only be open to tourists during the week for the whole of the month. So it transpired that the most I saw of the UN was through the railings outside the perimiter. I confe...

... catching up and connecting. I wish we all lived in one big village so I could spend more time with you! I leave tonight for Delhi, India and after a couiple of days I will take a long bus ride to Manali, up in the Himalayas. I will be in Dharamasala by Nov 1 to do a 10 day Goenka retreat and after that I have no plans - only a few ideas and some loose goals. These include more meditation (probably in Sri ...
New York City, New York, United States alanf... with the NY. The train rattled off and the three girls stood there waving. Waking mid morning the next day I was greeted by a couple of cats and Spence. Kevingerrard was woken and we went to grab something to eat after a quick stop at a hi-end patisserie/coffee shop over run with a Hoboken social group that Kevengerrard obviously frequents. Sunday's seem to be the day that this little group meets and Rachael and I hopped right in the middle of three scraggy haired girls, two of ...
